Aug. 23
ANN: You will see two MSL (MyStatLab) assignments due Monday, August 30 (meaning midnight at the end of Monday). The first is "Chapter O Homework" which will cover the MSL interface including how to enter answers. Also, "Section 1.1 Homework" will cover the material we cover this week (Wednesday) in class. Those are both due this upcoming Monday. The syllabus will explain how we will usually have MSL due the Monday after the week we finish the notes in class. In class, we introduced ourselves to each other and talked over some bits from the syllabus and class policies. I would like you to get MSL set up as instructed on the syllabus and start on "Chapter O Homework" before next class. Although, you have through midnight Monday to get it and the other MSL assignment fully done. Next time, I will give you a handout for the Math Resource Center (MRC) which is our tutoring location. I will also do a bit of a demo for MSL to help you get started.
Aug. 25
ANN: Chapter O Homework and Section 1.1 Homework will be due this upcoming Monday, Aug. 30. ANN: There was a MSL setting where MSL required you to watch the videos before doing any problems in the homework assignments; I have since removed that requirement. I still recommend you watch the videos as they are useful and will fill in some gaps left in my Notes. You will receive a point for each video you watch through the homework. In class, I handed out information for the Math Resource Center, our tutoring center. I demonstrated MML, focusing on homework and the Ask My Instructor option. The interface is somewhat different than what is described on the syllabus. The stuff I describe is still there; it just looks different. We covered the class notes for 1.1. If you missed class, you can find the video (previously recorded) of me going through the Class Notes in that section of the Website.
Aug. 30
ANN: Chapter O Homework and Section 1.1 Homework will be due tonight Monday, Aug. 30. In class, I handed out an amendment to my office hours. Please put it in your binder in front of the syllabus. We covered the Class Notes for 1.2 and the Class Notes for 1.3. For section 1.2, I handed out the worksheet Variables which is to be done outside of class. We will discuss it next time. As a reminder, you will have MML homework due on the Monday after the week we finish a section of Class Notes. You may do homework early if you like. For instance, we finished sections 1.2 and 1.3 today (and will likely finish 1.4 Wednesday) so all will be due this upcoming Monday, Sep. 6. So, you could start those homework assignments at any time. By the way, Sep. 6 is Labor Day so if you need the school to complete MML assignments, you need to get it done early because the campus is closed on Labor Day.
Sep. 1
ANN: Chapter O Homework and Section 1.1 Homework in MML was due Mon., Aug. 30. However, you can still do them (in full or in part) for 50% credit. Only problems finished after the due date are subject to the 50% late penalty. ANN: You will see that Section 1.2, Section 1.3, and Section 1.4 Homework assignments are due this upcoming Monday, Sep. 6 in MML. If you need the campus computers to do homework, get it done early because the campus is closed on Sep. 6 for Labor Day. In class, we discussed the Class Notes for 1.4 and started the Class Notes for 1.5, getting through page 3. For section 1.5, I handed out the worksheet Sampling questions which I will ask you to do after our next meeting. You do not need to do it yet.

Sep. 8
We finished discussing the Class Notes for 1.5. For section 1.5, I handed out the worksheet Sampling questions which I asked students to do. We will discuss it next time. We then covered the Class Notes for 1.6 and even started the Class Notes for 2.1, getting through page 4.
Sep. 13
ANN: The exam over chapters 1 and 2 is scheduled for Wed., Sep. 22 through Tues., Sep. 28. You will do it at home or a campus computer lab outside of class. You will have two hours to do the exam. You can use your Notes, book, and homework but please do not consult other people when you are taking the exam. You will see that you have Chapter 1 Review Homework and Chapter 2 Review Homework also due on Sep. 28. They will help you prepare for the exam. You must do all the homework to a score of 20% in order to take the exam. That way, you will not start the exam and then realize you had not even looked at a section's homework. Also, even though you have a full week to decide when to take the exam, it should be done in one two-hour (probably will take you less time but that is the time limit) sitting. ANN: Sections 1.5 and 1.6 Homework assignments in MSL are due tonight while Sections 2.1 and 2.2 Homework (and possibly 2.3) will be due next Monday night. You should work on homework assignments throughout the week. In class, we discussed the worksheet for 1.5 from last time. We finished the Class Notes for 2.1. There were instructions for StatCrunch at the end of the Notes which we went over. StatCrunch is available in MSL and we will use it throughout the semester. We started the Class Notes for 2.2, getting through page 3. Page 4 of those Notes starts off with a worksheet called Data Displays (stapled to the Notes in class) so we worked through some of it, leaving the rest for you to do for Wednesday's class on your own. It will give us a lot of practice and guide us through some (perhaps new to you) data displays. We did numbers 4 and 7 together. You are to do numbers 1-3, 5, 6, and 8 on your own. We will discuss it next class. I do have a video under Assorted Handouts and Tutorials of me going through the worksheet in case you need it.

ANN: I am giving students who scored less than 70% on Exam 1 the opportunity to redo it to get a better score. If this applies to you, I emailed you earlier. If you choose to do this, complete the exam by Mon., Oct. 11. The better score will stand. If you scored 70% or higher and want to take advantage of this, contact me and I will set it up for you as well; I just did not do it automatically. In class, we breifly discussed the Class Notes for 3.2 as you watched the video in my absence last week. I did hand out the Notes in case you were unable to print. There is a worksheet called Comparison of two data sets with the same mean attached to these Notes. We will discuss it next time. We discussed the Class Notes for 3.4, getting through page 5. We will continue next time.
Oct. 6
We discussed the worksheet Comparison of two data sets with the same mean from last time for section 3.2. We finished the Class Notes for 3.4. We covered the Class Notes for 3.5. A worksheet called Effect of an outlier is attached to these Notes; please do it for next time. We started the Class Notes for 4.1, getting through page 4. Also, even though you have a full week to decide when to take the exam, it should be done in one two-hour (probably will take you less time but that is the time limit) sitting. You should get the homework done as soon as you can so you have plenty of time to take the exam. In class, we discussed the 3.5 worksheet from last time. We then finished the Class Notes for 4.1. A worksheet called Regression and correlation is attached to these Notes; please do it for next time. We then started the Class Notes for 4.2, getting through page 4. A worksheet called Linear regression on your calculator (TI-82, 83, 84, 85, 86) is stapled to these Notes. Do it for next time for practice finding these lines on your calculator. For this worksheet, pages 1-5 are instructions that work you through the main example. Page 6 is a practice problem, the answer for which I will display next time.
Oct. 13
ANN: Exam 2 will cover chapters 3 and 4 and be available today, Wed., Oct. 13 through Tues., Oct. 19. Again, you have two hours and it should be completed in one session. Please use your Notes, book, and MML Homework but do not consult other people when you are taking the exam. You will see Chapter 3 Review Homework and Chapter 4 Review Homework due Oct. 19 as well which will help you study. In class, we finished the Class Notes for 4.2 and covered the Class Notes for 4.3. In class, we covered the Class Notes for 5.2. There are two worksheets attached to these Notes, as handed out in class. The first is Probability: Addition Rule and you can do it if you want (if you have a coin and die) but you do not have to. The second worksheet is Counting Problems Involving "OR" and should be done for next time.

Nov. 8
ANN: Exam 3 over chapters 5 and 6 is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 17 through Tues., Nov. 23. ANN: Before class, I found out that the email I thought I had sent last Wednesday was not received. As a result, students did not get the instruction to watch the 5.4 video in my absence. I have sent another email with that instruction and have postponed the 5.4 MML homework due date through Nov. 15. In class, we covered the Class Notes for 5.5 and started the Class Notes for 6.1, getting through page 2.
Nov. 10
(Thursday, Nov. 11 is Veteran's Day -- no school) ANN: Exam 3 over chapters 5 and 6 is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 17 through Tues., Nov. 23. In class, we finished the Class Notes for 6.1 and then started the Class Notes for 6.2, getting through example 3. There are two worksheets attached to the 6.1 Notes. They are Expected Value of a Lottery Ticket which is interesting because Mia was asking about this very thing when we started chapter 5. You can do it but it is not required. The other worksheet, Expected Value and Standard Deviation of a Dart Game, should be done for Monday as it gives us good practice with these concepts and calculations. The worksheet attached to the 6.2 Notes is Mean and Standard Deviation of a Binomial Distribution and will be asked for next week; you do not need to do it yet.

ANN: Exam 3 over chapters 5 and 6 is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 17 through Tues., Nov. 23. In class, we discussed the worksheet Mean and Standard Deviation of a Binomial Distribution and then covered the Class Notes for 7.1. Attached to these Notes is the worksheet Normal distribution which we started together, getting through number 5. This wraps up 7.1 but do not do its homework before you complete the exam (over chapters 5 and 6). We will do the rest of the worksheet and do 7.2 Notes next time. That will likely make both 7.1 and 7.2 MML homework due the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Nov. 22
ANN: Exam 3 over chapters 5 and 6 is available through tomorrow, Tues., Nov. 23. In class, we worked on the Class Notes for 7.2, getting through example 4. We did complete the remainder of the worksheet Normal distribution (from last time) as part of these Notes.

ANN: For Math Tutoring Help during our cybersecurity-related outage, call 618-468-4118. ANN: I do not have access to email as of yet. We will hold class today. We will not have class next week but I will be available in my office and, hopefully, by email. I have postponed the Sections 7.1 and 7.2 homework assignments so that they are now due Dec. 13. We will cover the rest of 7.2 this week and call it quits on lecturing. I had intended to give one last exam over 7.1 and 7.2 but since decided to cut that exam. However, please do the Chapter 7 (7.1-7.2) Review Homework assignment to give you more practice on those problems. If you scored less than 70% on Exam 3, you can now retake it; you need to get your retake done by Dec. 16. If you scored 70% or more on Exam 3 and want to retake it, tell me and I will set that up. Know that Thursday, Dec. 16 is the last day of the semester. In class, we worked through the remainder of the Class Notes for 7.2. Attached to these Notes is a worksheet called Normal distribution practice 3 which we did together in class.
