ANN: Chapter O Homework in MyMathLab (MML) will be due this upcoming Tuesday, January 23. ANN: Section 1.4 Homework and Section 2.2 Homework in MML will be due Jan. 30. In class, students introduced themselves and I introduced the class with several policies and class details. I handed out the syllabus and we looked through the main points. You should read it thoroughly soon. You need to get MyMathLab (MML) set up as well; you will see instructions under MyMathLab and on the syllabus. I did a brief demonstration of my Website www.stlmath.com. I handed out the handout for our Math Resource Center which is our math tutoring location on campus. ANN: Exam 1 will cover 1.4, 2.2, 2.4, 2.5, and 3.1-3.5. In class, we started the Class Notes for 1.4, getting through making an example for terms and factors in the middle of page 2. We will continue from there next time. A 1.4 worksheet was attached to these Notes and will be discussed next time.

ANN: Chapter O Homework in MyMathLab (MML) will be due today Tuesday, January 23. ANN: Section 1.4 Homework and (possibly) Section 2.2 Homework in MML will be due Jan. 30. ANN: Exam 1 will cover 1.4, 2.2, 2.4, 2.5, and 3.1-3.5. In class, we worked on the Class Notes for 1.4, getting through the definition, examples, and counterexamples of quadratic equations on page 6. We will continue next time. The 1.4 worksheet Manipulating Complex Numbers 3 will be collected next time.
January 25
[Friday, January 26 is the last day for a full refund.] ANN: When we finish a section of Class Notes one week, expect the related MML Section Homework to be due the following Tuesday, midnight. I will not be announcing individual due dates. ANN: You can do late MML work for half credit. In class, I collected the 1.4 worksheet Manipulating Complex Numbers 3. We then finished the Class Notes for 1.4. We then went on to start the Class Notes for 2.2, getting through example 5. The two worksheets from 2.2 should be looked at but will not be collected. They are Things to know about your calculator and Getting started on your graphing calculator.

We finished the Class Notes for 2.2. We are skipping section 2.4. You are not responsible for the content. We covered the Class Notes for 2.5.

There are two worksheets attached to these Notes (stapled if you got them from me; you'll need to get the worksheets under Assorted Handouts and Tutorials if you print your own). The first Finding maximums and minimums on your calculator is for reference only and will not be collected. The second 3.3 worksheet Investigating functions 3 will be collected Tuesday.

In class, we finished the Class Notes for 3.4 and went on to cover the Class Notes for 3.5, skipping example 8. The 3.5 worksheet Transformations 2 will be collected Tuesday, which is Exam day. The 3.4 worksheet Piecewise Functions will not be collected (at all).
February 20

February 22
ANN: The next exam will cover chapters 4 and 5. ANN: Please Review your exam through the Gradebook in MML for harsh grading. Particularly, look for places where you rounded badly and got the problem marked completely wrong or you simply mistyped something. Tell me and I will see if I can give you points back. In class, we started the Class Notes for 4.1, getting through page 6. The 4.1 worksheet Roots and intersections on your calculator will be collected next Tuesday.
February 27
I collected the 4.1 worksheet Roots and intersections on your calculator and we finished the Class Notes for 4.1. We then went on to cover the Class Notes for 4.2. The 4.2 worksheet Linear regression on your calculator (TI-82, 83, 84, 85, 86) will not be collected; use it as a reference.
February 29
ANN: You can do late MML work for half credit. You can turn in late paper worksheets for full credit. There is a deadline (April 2) after which you will not be allowed to turn in any late work from chapters 1-5. ANN: Exam 2 over 4.1-4.3, 5.1, and 5.5 is set for Tuesday, March 19. Spring Break is March 11-15. In class, we covered the Class Notes for 4.3.

MML Homework for the sections we finish this week will be due Monday, March 18. It is a MML exam so we will use the computers in our room. Know your LC and MML log-in information. In class, we covered the Class Notes for 5.1. We completed questions 1-4 of Polynomial functions: End behavior together as a class and then used it to complete the table on page 3 of the Notes. A second 5.1 worksheet, Polynomial functions: End behavior 2, is due Thursday at the beginning of class. I handed out a 5.5 worksheet Rational functions: Vertical asymptotes to be done for Thursday as well. It will be recorded as a completion grade (worth 10/10 points).
March 7
[March 11-15 is Spring Break. No school.] ANN: Exam 2 over 4.1-4.3, 5.1, and 5.5 is set for Tuesday, March 19, right after Spring Break. You will see two chapter review assignments in MML to help you prepare. You are allowed to use your Class Notes, calculator, and homework notebook during the exam. You must have at least 20% on every homework assignment (including the chapter review assignments) for the exam to open. MML Homework for the sections we finish this week will be due Monday, March 18. It is a MML exam so we will use the computers in our room. Know your LC and MML log-in information. In class, I collected the 5.1 worksheet Polynomial functions: End behavior 2 and checked off students for completion of the 5.5 worksheet Rational functions: Vertical asymptotes (as a 10/10 grade). We then covered the Class Notes for 5.5. The 5.5 worksheet Rational Functions: Horizontal and Oblique Asymptotes will be collected Tuesday, March 19.
